The 2012 - 2013 School Year is the first year of our new entity, the result of a merging of Holy Family School and Cathedral School. We are proud to offer educational opportunities for Pre-K through 8th Grade.
A brief history --
The Holy Family School opened September 7, 1959 and was staffed by the Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, alongside lay teachers. Located at 25th and Berryhill Streets in Harrisburg, the Holy Family campus offers plenty of space for young children to run and play. Kindergarten through Grade 4 will be housed at the HF Campus.
In the late 1980s, St. Francis School made the difficult decision to close its doors, sending their students to either Cathedral School or Holy Family School, a practice which continues today.
The Cathedral Campus will house Pre-K, as well as Grades 5 through 8 in the downtown Harrisburg location. The proximity to cultural venues provide students with many wonderful opportunities. The Cathedral Campus is also steeped in history, from its origination in 1873, with the addition of Sisters of Christian Charity to the Sisters of Mercy, through a merge with St. Lawrence School and other parishes in 1965.
In Spring 2012, the Diocese of Harrisburg decided to merge Holy Family and Cathedral Schools, forming Harrisburg Catholic Elementary School, featuring two campuses as described above. HCE's mission statement outlines our goals and beliefs.
Harrisburg Catholic Elementary School, a faith filled community, is enriched by a diversity of richly laden cultures. Striving to develop the whole child, we encourage them to appreciate each other and to share their God-given talents. We emphasize academic excellence, responsibility, and socialization in a safe learning environment. We recognize each student's uniqueness and encourage them to embrace the presence of God's love in their lives.
